Inspired by the Låggua, , the CHamoru name for the larger variety of parrotfish, one of Guam’s most vibrant and important reef species. Known for their bright colors and essential role in maintaining healthy coral reefs, låggua help protect ocean ecosystems by feeding on microalgae, preventing algae from overwhelming corals, and contributing to the creation of the white sand found on Guam’s beautiful beaches.

As a house, Guma Låggua celebrates students who bring positivity, environmental awareness, and a commitment to protecting the natural world. Members of this house are encouraged to lead with hope, care for their community, and make choices that support a healthier, more sustainable future for Guam and the Pacific.

Coastal and Coral Reef Preservation / Ocean Acidification

Guma Låggua advocates for the protection of Guam’s coastlines, coral reefs, and marine ecosystems. Students explore the impacts of ocean acidification, pollution, and climate change while learning how science, conservation, and community action can help preserve Guam’s reefs and coastal environments.
